Elite Eleven players KJ Medler (blue) and Cheyenne Schaller battle for a ball at the 2013 SDHSAA state tournament.
KJ Medler is the kind of player that any soccer team would love to have. The junior captain normally plays in the middle but it is not uncommon to see her back in the six yard box defending her goal or going forward to score for her team.
Not a big player by any means, Medler is a ferocious ball winner and it is rare to see her not come up with the ball when challenging for it. Her distribution out of the midfield is elegant and insightful. She can play one-touch into space or turn and carve a defense to pieces with precision.
Medler likes to score, but is more comfortable in the provider role, as are so many true holding central midfielders. We look forward to watching her in the next year – to check her continued development and to see where she chooses to further her career at the college level.
