About

It’s All About South Dakota Soccer – The Short Story of Soccer605….

The mission of Soccer605 is to strengthen the South Dakota soccer community by sharing soccer news across South Dakota and serving as an advocate for everything soccer in the State. We have dual goals that work quite well together. First — keeping the statewide soccer community up-to-date on what is happening in soccer across the State by providing a one-stop-shop where players, coaches, referees and fans can keep on top of South Dakota soccer news. Second – to provide a forum where youth and adult players, and coaches across the soccer spectrum are recognized for their efforts on behalf of their schools, their clubs and the region.

We also appreciate our visitors from outside the state – college coaches; friends & family of South Dakota soccer players; former South Dakota soccer players; and even quite a few international visitors – who visit Soccer605 to learn about what’s happening in the South Dakota soccer community.

The Long Version

In the summer of 2011, Connor McKee, an avid soccer fan, recently-graduated University of Sioux Falls men’s college player, and a former South Dakota rec, club and high school player, decided to take action on a project that he’d been considering since he was in high school.  He had been frustrated throughout his youth and college soccer career by the lack of media coverage of his sport. He wanted to help increase the amount of knowledgeable coverage of soccer in South Dakota, and help build and strengthen a South Dakota soccer culture.  So he created Soccer605.com.

Soccer605.com was created with the mission to strengthen the South Dakota soccer community and culture, by sharing soccer news across South Dakota and serving as an advocate for everything soccer in the State.

In our first two years at Soccer605, we were twice honored as recipient of the 2011 & 2012 Friend of Soccer Media Award from the South Dakota Soccer Association. Soccer605.com conducted the only statewide preseason poll of high school soccer coaches in both 2011 & 2012.  In 2012, Soccer605.com was recognized by the South Dakota High School Activities Association as its first (and thus far, only) soccer-specific media outlet for sanctioned high school soccer activities and were grateful to share the press box with South Dakota Public Broadcasting and the Aberdeen American News at the historical first SDHSAA State Soccer Tournament in Aberdeen, SD in October 2012.  Also in 2012, we had the pleasure of serving as the Summit League’s onsite media outlet for the 2012 Women’s Soccer Summit League Championships in Brookings, SD.  We have more changes in store for 2013, as we expand the site!

As more and more soccer players, coaches and fans have discovered Soccer605, we realize the site has become more than a simple website about soccer in South Dakota.  Soccer605 is a soccer destination, where every day is game day.

We are Soccer605 – but only because of the contributions and following of our fellow soccer fans across the State and Region.  If you are reading this, we welcome you as a fellow fan . . .
